Multiply each course grade by its credit hours to get quality points, sum them, and divide by total credit hours. A 3-credit A (4.0) and a 4-credit B (3.0) = 24 quality points, divided by 7 credits = 3.43 GPA. Our GPA calculator does this automatically and supports both weighted and unweighted scales. The GPA calculator also handles plus/minus grades and repeated courses.

How it works

How to calculate semester and cumulative GPA

Our gpa calculator lets you compute weighted GPA from a list of courses and grades, in four steps.

  1. 1

    Enter each course

For every class, type the course name, credit hours, and the grade you expect or received. Use the letter grade dropdown or enter a percentage.

  2. 2

    Repeat for each course

Add a row for every course in the term. The calculator recomputes the GPA live as you add or edit courses.

  3. 3

Add prior credits if calculating cumulative

If you are computing cumulative GPA, add your prior credit hours and prior GPA. The calculator combines this with the current semester.

  4. 4

    Read the result

The result shows your semester GPA, cumulative GPA (if prior data is added), and a breakdown of total credits, quality points, and letter grade distribution.
