Tips for Grade Calculation:
Grading scales may vary by institution. Check your course syllabus for specific grading policies.
Add grading categories (homework, quizzes, midterm, final) and their weights. Weights must total 100% for accurate results.
Type your current score in each category. You can enter individual assignment scores or a category average.
Type your desired final grade to see what you need on the final. Our grade calculator flags whether that target is achievable.

Use the formula: (Target grade - Current grade x (1 - Final weight)) / Final weight. For a 90% target in a class where you are at 85% with the final worth 30%: (90 - 85 x 0.7) / 0.3 = 101.7% - which means an A is not achievable. Our grade calculator does this calculation instantly and shows whether your target is realistic. The grade calculator also shows the letter grade equivalent.
How it works
Our grade calculator lets you find your current grade and the score you need on a final exam to reach your target, in four steps.
Pick Current grade to see what you have so far, or What I need on the final to find the score required to reach a target grade. The calculator shows the form for your choice.
Add each grading category (homework, midterm, final, etc.) with its weight. Weights must add up to 100%. For example: Homework 30%, Quizzes 20%, Midterm 20%, Final 30%.
For each category, type either your average percentage (e.g. 85) or individual assignment scores to be averaged. You can mix - e.g. enter midterm as a single score, homework as multiple scores.
The result shows your current weighted grade, the letter grade, and (if you selected what I need) the exact final exam score required to reach your target. If the required score is over 100% or below 0%, the calculator flags that the target is unreachable.
