About Grade Calculation

Grade calculations help determine your final score based on individual assignments and their weights.

Calculation Methods:

  • Percentage: Simple average of all scores (equal weight)
  • Weighted: Different items have different importance (weights)

Grading Scale (Common US Scale):

  • A+ (97-100%): Exceptional performance
  • A (93-96%): Excellent performance
  • B (83-86%): Good performance
  • C (73-76%): Average performance
  • D (63-66%): Below average performance
  • F (0-62%): Failing performance

Tips for Grade Calculation:

  • Keep track of all assignments and their weights
  • Calculate what you need on remaining assignments
  • Understand your grading syllabus requirements
  • Use weighted calculations for courses with different category weights

Grading scales may vary by institution. Check your course syllabus for specific grading policies.

How our grade calculator works

1

Enter your categories

Add grading categories (homework, quizzes, midterm, final) and their weights. Weights must total 100% for accurate results.

2

Add your scores

Type your current score in each category. You can enter individual assignment scores or a category average.

3

Project final exam score

Type your desired final grade to see what you need on the final. Our grade calculator flags whether that target is achievable.

Key things to know about our grade calculator:

  • Letter grade scale: A 90-100% is typically an A, 80-89% a B, 70-79% a C, 60-69% a D. Some schools use plus/minus modifiers.
  • Weighted categories matter: 5% extra credit on a 5%-weighted assignment moves your grade more than 5% on a 50%-weighted one.
  • Plan study time: Use our grade calculator before every exam to plan study time based on whats needed.
